5-26-2013 Shopping Adventure! (And "Epic" movie review)

Today, I went to Towson mall with my friends!! Towson mall is pretty huge and they have Love Culture there, so I love it! We didn't spend too much time shopping, so all I got was this cute dress from Love Culture:

See the yoga poster in the back? Hahaha that didn't work out too well >o<

The original price was $36, but it was on sale for $13-- what a deal!! :D It has cute little stars on the skirt. I feel like I can wear it during 4th of July haha:

We also went to this boutique jewelry store called "Laila Rowe". They had this superrrr cute & sparkly necklace there that I really wanted.... but in the end, I opted out because it was quite pricey ($22; hey, that's a lot for an unemployed college student TT). But I did get this pair of cute hairclips for $6:

super cute!

Afterwards, we went to watch "Epic" (spoiler alert!!):

I was really looking forward to watching this movie. The trailers looked beautiful, and I've always had a fascination for whimsical, fantasy stories about mystical creatures. However, I was quite disappointed.... To me, it was a generic "bad vs. good" movie with a (rather awkward) romantic touch: bad guy wants to rule the forest, good guys try to stop him, almost loose, but then win in the end. Not original. And I didn't really connect with the characters as I did in other CGI animated films such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Shrek. They just didn't seem to delve deep into the characters' personas and emotions as I would have liked.

I think this film has potential to be a lot better if they focused more on the development of the characters and had a more well-constructed storyline progress. The theme of the film is difficult to point out too... There was a phrase "Many leaves, one tree", so is it about finding your place and fitting in? I didn't really get that feeling, though. All in all, it wasn't as "epic" as it was hyped up to be (haha, see what I did there?).

"Huh? What do you mean it wasn't good?"

That being said, the visuals were stunning (as expected of DreamWorks). And Beyonce did the voice for one of the main characters, so that is pretty cool. Her character reminded me of Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog, though lol.

Queen Tara and Princess Tiana. Even their names are kind of similar!
